Youth Livestock Supporters Raise $87,850 for Scholarship Fund
The eighth annual State Fair of Texas Shooting for the Stars Sporting Clay event was the most successful shoot yet. A record-breaking $87,850 was raised with all proceeds going directly to the Fair’s Youth Livestock Auction and Scholarship Program.
“We are extremely pleased with the outcome of this year’s event,” said Daryl Real, senior vice president of livestock and agriculture for the State Fair of Texas. “We surpassed our goals again this year and are very excited about the continued growth of the sporting clay shoot.”
One hundred percent of the money given to and raised at this event goes to support the State Fair of Texas Youth Livestock Auction and Scholarship Program. This program supports youth from across the state, as well as placing emphasis on five area high schools surrounding Fair Park.
More than 220 shooters representing 44 teams competed at the event held at the Dallas Gun Club. First place teams from three courses were recognized. Earning first place honors on the green, blue and orange courses, respectively: the Long Straw Ranch team, the Texas State Rifle Association team, and the MDH Services team. Tad Riney was the first place individual shooter on the green course. First place individual shooter on the blue course was Stan Perry, and Bo Powell earned first place individual shooter on the orange course. All first place winners received a trophy and a prize pack.

About the Youth Livestock Auction
Winning exhibitors are eligible to sell their project through a live auction where sponsors pay premium prices to Texas youth. These youth have invested their time, compassion and energy with their animals in hopes of walking away with the Grand Champion prize. The livestock projects are the vehicle used to teach our kids important lessons in life like responsibility, leadership, communication, hard work and dedication.
Youth Livestock Shows are Saturday, September 30 through Thursday, October 5 prior to the Auction. The Auction begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 6, preceded by a buyer luncheon that will commence at 11 a.m. For more information, please contact auction@BigTex.com.
