Youth Market week at the State Fair of Texas® has returned! The Youth Market Barrow entries have risen to more than 1,000 barrows, nearly breaking the record for the highest entries in State Fair history. Youth market barrow move-in began at 9 p.m. on Sept. 30 and continued until 7 the following morning.
“The fun of hog week is moving in,” said Rodney Weiss, father of a Washington Co. 4-H member.
The Weiss family traveled from Brenham, Texas to the State Fair and arrived in Dallas at 1 a.m., Weiss said they didn’t unload their hogs until 7:30 a.m.
“It’s been a long night, but when the show starts it will all be worth it,” said Weiss.
Shows will begin Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 8 a.m. with the Grand Champion drive being held Thursday afternoon.
The 110 top placing market barrows will be sold on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Youth Auction of Champions in the Tom Thumb Sales Pavilion. The auction is a way to reward the youth exhibitors for all their hard work and dedication. The exhibitors will be given a capped amount of money for their livestock, and the remaining will be added to a scholarship fund for high school students in Texas.
The State Fair of Texas is excited for 2013 Youth Market week and all the shows in store.
