Fighting for Racial Equity

Where We Stand

We recognize what an incredibly difficult time it is in our nation with the recent events of violence and racism against Black people. The unjust deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery in recent weeks are a reminder that real change is still needed. We grieve with our Black communities and acknowledge the reality that racism, both personally and systemically, is harmful and even deadly. The State Fair of Texas is committed to fighting for racial equity in America. While we cannot change the past, we can and must continue to create and advocate for change in our local communities and across the country.

It is incumbent upon every person, every company, and every organization to ensure that their actions work toward eradicating racism. We are committed to listening, learning, fostering, and supporting the change that is necessary. We can all make America a better place for every human, now and for generations to come.

We, as an organization, are actively advocating for policies and working with partners on local and state levels to address effects of systemic racism, within the criminal justice system, employment, food insecurity, transportation, and education. We are taking steps to ensure equitable practices also exist internally including hiring, promotions, and training for our staff and board members to create and foster an anti-racist work environment. We are promoting advocacy and using our programming as tools to create change and encouraging others to do the same. We are committed to our Black neighbors and amplifying their voices and needs as we continue providing grants and resources to support them through our partners.

We stand with the Black community, who are part of our team, customers, vendors, and neighbors. We stand with those seeking change and reform to create a more equitable and safer country for everyone. The motto of Texas is friendship. Friendship means trust and support. We support you. We stand with you. Black Lives Matter.
