Livestock Internship Opportunities

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2024

All intern positions work as a team to process show entries; correspond with teachers, agents, exhibitors, and contractors via phone, email, and in-person; answer questions and problem solve issues in preparation for, and during, the event. All interns will be background checked and asked to handle money as well as sensitive information. The utilization of State Fair data platforms and other technology will be a daily occurrence.

Available Positions

Equine & Rodeo Events Intern
Duration: June 24 – November 15, 2024
Responsibilities: Supports the horse show coordinator as they plan each of the event’s setup, execution, and results. Responsible for horse barn stalling, equine awards, and social media. Will also assist in various livestock tasks in conjunction with the entire team.

Livestock Office Assistant Intern
Duration: June 24 – November 15, 2024
Supports the livestock manager in overseeing daily operations of the office during the show. Assists teachers, agents, parents, and exhibitors with questions and/or concerns. Responsible for daily show preparations in addition to numerous data management and recordkeeping tasks.

Agriculture Education Intern
Duration: July 15– November 15, 2024
Responsibilities: Planning details and execution of fairgrounds-wide agriculture education exhibits under the direction of the livestock manager and senior vice president. Provides support to contractors and oversees daily attendance and tasks of temporary event interns.

Grounds & Operations Intern
Duration: July 15 – November 15, 2024
Responsibilities: Supports the livestock team under the direction of the livestock manager and grounds superintendent. Assists in facilitating livestock move-ins and move-outs, floor animal documentation, and feed store logistics. Responsible for equipment management, arena setup, and show awards.

Youth Development Contests Intern (2 available)
Duration: July 15 – November 15, 2024
Responsibilities: Oversight of 18 youth development contests under the direction of the livestock coordinator. Contests vary from archery to food challenges to livestock judging. Will correspond directly with contest superintendents and other State Fair officials.
