Agriculture serves not only as a pillar of this organization but as a fundamental feature of the Lone Star State and its history. Every year, thousands of students from around the state work diligently in preparation for the competitive livestock events and leadership contests at the State Fair.

CONTESTS AT THE STATE FAIR OF TEXAS

There are plenty of other contests to get involved in at that don’t do not require exhibiting livestock. Everything from pre-fair archery contests to meat science contests are offered throughout the 2025 fair season. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Entry Questions

Q: How do I enter the Livestock Show?

A: All entries must be submitted online at livestock.bigtex.com. A step-by-step instruction guide to online entries can be found here on the Livestock Exhibitor Webpage under Exhibitor Resources  

New this year! Parents will have the ability to pay for Youth entries, CEA/AST will approve entries once parents have submitted and paid. Parents will also have the ability to submit Youth and Pan American entries in the same session.

Q: How do I enter contests?

A: All contest information can be found on the contest webpage or in the 2025 Exhibitor Handbook. 

 

Q: When do entries open? What is the entry deadline?

A: Youth entries will open August 1 and close August 25. Entries must be postmarked by September 1. Access to the online parent portal closes on August 22 at 11:59 p.m.  

Pan American entries open August 1 and close September 1. All Pan American entries must be submitted online. 

Q: I am a new CEA/AST. How can I reset my Entry Portal password?

A: To reset your password please let us know the email address associated with the account by either calling the Livestock Office at 214-421-8723 or emailing us at livestock@bigtex.com.

Q: If I have a brand-new chapter, how can I create an account?

A: To create a chapter account please email the Livestock Office at livestock@bigtex.com with the chapter/club’s name, email and phone number. 

Q: What is the late entry fee?

A: For specific late entry guidelines for contests, please refer to the respected contest rules and regulations.  

Youth late entry fees for submissions between August 26 – September 1, is $100 per entry plus the entry fee. Youth late entry fees for submissions after September 1 are $250 per entry plus the entry fee.  

Pan American late fee is $100 per entry plus the entry fee.

Credential Questions

Q: Do I receive complimentary passes with my entry?

A: Yes, please refer to the Complimentary Livestock Credential section listed in the General Information & Rules heading of 2025 Exhibitor Handbook for information regarding complimentary passes. 

Q: When will I receive my passes?

A: All youth entry credentials will be mailed via FedEx to the County Agent or Ag Teacher. Pan American credentials will be mailed via FedEx to the address listed on entry. Any credential order placed after September 1 will not be mailed and must be picked up at the Livestock Office located in Cattle Barn 1 upon arrival at the fairgrounds.

Q: My number of entries for the Pan American show does not qualify for enough credentials. How do I receive more?

A: Credentials will be available for purchase on the online entry portal. Any credential order placed after September 1 will not be mailed and must be picked up at the Livestock Office located in Cattle Barn 1 upon arrival at the fairgrounds.

Q: Can I purchase exhibitor credentials on-site?

A: Yes, exhibitor parking and credentials will be available for purchase via cash or card at the Livestock Office located in Cattle Barn 1.

General Questions

Q: How do I find the Exhibitor Handbook?

A: Please visit the Livestock Exhibitor Webpage and view the Exhibitor Handbook under Exhibitor Resources for information on everything from the Agriscience Fair to the Breeding Sheep Show.

Q: Where is the Livestock Show Schedule?

A: The schedule is listed in the Exhibitor Handbook and can be found on the Livestock Exhibitor Webpage listed under Exhibitor Resources.

Q: Can I purchase tie-outs?

A: Yes, cattle tie-outs can be purchased for $20 per tieout upon arrival at the fairgrounds. Tieout spaces will be sold on a first-come, firstserve basis. Tieouts will be assigned upon arrival when proof of purchase is confirmed. Please be sure to have your receipt and stall camp hangtag.

Q: Is outside bedding permitted?

A: No outside bedding (including but not limited to bagged or baled wood shavings, or chips, cedar fiber, and small square baled straw) will be permitted on the fairgrounds.

Q: Can I purchase feed and bedding on-site?

A: Yes, feed and hay will be available for purchase through the State Fair Feed Store on the fairgrounds. Cattle stalls are pre-bedded, and no outside bedding is permitted.

Q: How do I enter the fitting contest?

A: Sign-ups for the fitting contest will occur on site. Visit the Livestock Office in Cattle Barn 1 to sign up.

Q: How will we be notified about Auction buyers?

A: All auction buyer information will be shared with CEAs/ASTs and exhibitors via email.  

Q: How will checks be mailed out?

A: All youth show checks will be mailed via FedEx to CEAs/ASTs.  

All Pan American show checks will be mailed directly to the exhibitor.
