An Important Update Regarding 2026 Equine Events
Dear Horse Show and Rodeo Contestants,
After careful consideration, the State Fair of Texas has made the difficult decision to pause the pre-Fair horse shows and the State Fair Rodeo for the 2026 State Fair season this coming fall.
We want to begin by thanking you. Your participation, passion, and commitment to the equine industry have helped shape the history of the Lone Star State and the State Fair, and have meant a great deal to our organization and to fairgoers across Texas.
This decision reflects a broader evaluation of our programming following the 2025 State Fair. While these events have played an important role at various points in our history, they have not been part of the Fair every year. The rodeo itself returned only a few years ago, and its absence in 2026 does not signal a permanent departure.
Most importantly, this is not goodbye.
The State Fair evaluates its entertainment, attraction, and exhibitor offerings every year to ensure a balance of tradition and innovation while remaining financially responsible and ensuring the State Fair continues to be an affordable experience for families. Our support for the Texas equine industry remains strong, and we hope to welcome events like these back when conditions allow.
We understand the impact this decision may have on your planning and participation, and we are grateful for your continued engagement with the State Fair. Your role in our story matters, and we deeply respect the tradition and community you represent.
Thank you for your understanding and for the pride you bring to Texas agriculture.
