Hispanic Heritage Month offers a valuable opportunity to celebrate and honor the significant contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States. As a proud member of this vibrant community, I embrace the chance to reflect on our achievements, culture, and the role we play in shaping the fabric of this great nation. This month serves as a powerful reminder of the rich heritage we share and the impact we continue to make on America’s future. It’s a time to recognize the strength, resilience, and influence we bring to every industry—from agriculture and politics to arts and sports—while celebrating the cultural vibrancy that enriches and strengthens our country.
But Hispanic Heritage Month goes beyond honoring history; it’s an opportunity to foster cross-cultural understanding and promote inclusivity. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hispanics and Latinos make up 19.5 percent of the population, making us the largest racial or ethnic minority in the country. Many in our community take on essential roles that often go unnoticed, from housekeeping to agriculture—providing a foundation for our nation’s prosperity. It’s important to recognize these unsung heroes whose dedication and hard work enrich our daily lives. Our voices, stories, and contributions are woven into the fabric of America’s diverse tapestry, driving progress through representation, philanthropy, and leadership.
For me, embracing my rich cultural heritage is both a personal and professional responsibility. I draw strength from the courage and resilience of the Hispanic and Latino communities, striving to be an example for my children and others who seek to be givers and creators of change. I teach my children the importance of self-identity, cultural pride, and community responsibility. Embracing my culture with humility, I find strength in empathy and a desire to uplift others.
At the State Fair of Texas, I’ve been fortunate to explore numerous experiences, and in each role, I’ve found ways to give, learn, and improve the space around me. The Fair has allowed me to be authentic, to evolve, and to elevate the community I serve. I’m encouraged to strive for originality, and that freedom has enabled me to grow as an advocate for inclusivity, understanding, and progress.
In my role overseeing Community Affairs for the largest Fair in the nation, I approach my responsibilities with a genuine heart and an empathetic ear. This comes naturally to me because it aligns with who I am and what I stand for. Raised by a giving mother and family, I’ve been shaped by those values, and I strive to instill the same in my children. Everything I do is driven by my commitment to the community I am honored to represent. Each day, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve, and there are no words to express the fulfillment that comes from being a giver.
The journey of giving is rarely easy, but it is essential. I am dedicated to cultivating a deep, unconditional understanding of the challenges that come with being a giver. Progress cannot exist in isolation—it requires unity. True advancement happens when we honor our shared humanity, recognizing the worth of every individual and community. We must continue moving forward, not only for ourselves but for future generations. There is no progress without unity and no success without resilience. As I continue to celebrate and embrace my culture, I remain steadfast in my belief that through giving and understanding, we can build a future where every person and every community has the opportunity to thrive.
As we honor the cultural achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans during this month, I encourage everyone to celebrate without judgment, stand by one another, and never stop moving forward. Stagnation leads to cessation, but progress leads to endless possibilities. Let’s honor our shared humanity, recognize our strength, and celebrate the cultural richness that defines us. Let’s embrace our stories, insights, and achievements with pride. Together, we can create a future where all voices are heard, valued, and uplifted. It is through courage and empathy that we grow stronger, and it is through progress that we continue to thrive.
Con todo mi corazón y gratitud (With all my heart and gratitude),
