Today’s Throwback Thursday item comes from the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition.
This commemorative Centennial hat was owned by renowned Texas oil tycoon, H.L. Hunt.
After Hunt’s death in 1974, the hat was in the possession of his son, Lamar, founder of the American Football League and founder/owner of the Dallas Texans (in 1963 the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name – Kansas City Chiefs).
The hat made its way back to Fair Park when, upon the death of Lamar Hunt in 2006, his estate stipulated the hat be given to the State Fair of Texas.
