Scholarships for Texas Students
Since 1992, the Big Tex Scholarship Program has invested in Texas students—awarding more than $1.3 million in new scholarships in 2025 alone to 220 recipients statewide. Over its 30-plus-year history, the program has supported more than 3,700 students with over $20.1 million in scholarships, including Dallas ISD seniors from the Fair Park area, Youth Livestock competitors from across the state, and dedicated seasonal State Fair employees and their dependents.
Support to South Dallas/Fair Park Nonprofits
The State Fair’s Community Giving Program awarded $654,000 in project funding to 145 organizations serving South Dallas/Fair Park in 2025 alone—supporting education, capacity-building, economic development, and food security. Community giving includes sponsorships, supporting programs through funding (i.e., community grants and sponsorships), in-kind donations, technical assistance and training, and investments made through our signature programs benefiting South Dallas/Fair Park area organizations, students, and residents. The State Fair of Texas continues to expand outreach programs and invest in several initiatives, including Big Tex Community Engagement Days, Big Tex Urban Farms, Big Tex Next Fest, Big Tex’s Farm Day at the Fair, and the Big Tex Business Masterclass.
Donated Fresh Produce to Texans Facing Food Insecurity
Located in the heart of the Midway, Big Tex Urban Farms was created to further expand the State Fair’s mission of agriculture, education, and community beyond the 24 days of the annual Fair. Inspired by the State Fair’s 140-year heritage rooted in traditional Texas agriculture, Big Tex Urban Farms operates year-round, growing fresh produce that is donated to local nonprofit partners serving folks in need throughout the South Dallas and Fair Park area. Since its founding in 2016, the Farms has produced thousands of pounds of fresh produce each year and created meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for students, volunteers, and community members. Most recently, Big Tex Urban Farms hit a major milestone at the end of 2025, surpassing 2 million servings of fresh produce grown and donated to the South Dallas community. Make sure to visit the Errol McKoy Greenhouse on the Midway during your Fair visit to see the Big Tex Urban Farmers in action!
Premium Auction Awards and Scholarships for Youth Livestock Exhibitors
The Big Tex Youth Livestock Auction is the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work, dedication, and fundraising to support Texas students. This time-honored tradition celebrates young exhibitors from rural and urban communities who invest countless hours raising animals in hopes of earning top honors at the Annual Auction. Every dollar – 100% – raised for Auction Day goes directly to the youth exhibitors, with remaining proceeds supporting the Big Tex Scholarship Program, helping even more Texas students achieve their educational goals. In 2025, more than $2.2 million was raised to support students throughout the Lone Star State in auction awards and new college scholarships.
While the State Fair hosts additional fundraising events throughout the year, the annual 24-day exposition — the State Fair of Texas — is our largest community program and fundraiser of the year, and it’s with the help of our loyal fairgoers that we’re able to provide continued support to fellow Texans.
A day at the Fair is the perfect ready-made team experience, all in one iconic, walkable destination — historic Fair Park.
