The State Fair of Texas is proud to announce that in 2022 more than $576,000 in community grants and sponsorships were awarded to 83 organizations serving the South Dallas/Fair Park area. With community involvement as a pillar of the State Fair’s mission, we are elated that in just seven years, we have surpassed more than $3.6 million through the Fair’s local community giving efforts. The State Fair of Texas is thrilled to continue its community-giving program in 2023; nonprofits serving the South Dallas community can APPLY NOW to receive a grant for this year at BigTex.com/grants. The deadline for 2023 grant applications is Tuesday, February 28, at 5:00 p.m. Central time.
“Following a successful 2022 State Fair of Texas, we are honored to continue to serve our community and fulfill our nonprofit mission of community involvement,” said State Fair of Texas President Mitchell Glieber. “The Fair’s community grant program provides necessary funding for nonprofits in our neighborhood who are doing the work and supporting folks here in South Dallas. We feel very fortunate that because of our event, we can collaborate with a multitude of great organizations who are making a difference in our community.”
The State Fair received a competitive pool of grant and sponsorship applications in 2022. Applications were reviewed by a committee composed of a diverse group of stakeholders with expertise in nonprofit and grant review processes. Applicants are selected according to their alignment with the Fair’s focus on education, capacity building, social and racial justice, and economic development targeting our neighboring zip codes. Criteria for approval includes assessing the program’s impact in the South Dallas area, collaborations with other local entities, program design along with its implementation and evaluation methods, and overall sustainability of the program. Those receiving funding will allocate the money strategically to build stronger communities in the South Dallas/Fair Park neighborhoods.

The State Fair of Texas continues to expand outreach programs, prioritizing promoting community involvement at the local level. Whether through Community Engagement Days, Big Tex Urban Farms, the Big Tex Business Master Class, or the Fair’s other signature programs, there are several initiatives the Fair has developed and continues to invest in, in addition to grants and sponsorships. Since creating our community relations department in 2016, the Fair has invested more than $3.6 million in community giving through many great initiatives, sponsorships, and partnerships within the South Dallas/Fair Park area. Community giving includes sponsorships, supporting programs through funding (aka community grants), in-kind donations, technical assistance and training, and investments made through our signature programs benefiting South Dallas/Fair Park area organizations. Along with offering financial resources, the State Fair of Texas connects with local organizations to foster community relationships, form partnerships, and develop initiatives that work to make a positive impact.
The State Fair of Texas is honored to give back to its neighbors. We cherish the many partnerships and collaborations that help grow our ability to serve. The State Fair commits to continuing to listen and learn from our community because it is through collective efforts that we make the greatest impact and can serve as many lives as possible. Together with our community, we are dedicated to the bright future of sunny South Dallas and the well-being of all who call it home.
