Enjoy working with your hands? Do you consider yourself a shutterbug? Artists and crafters of all ages are encouraged to participate in the State Fair’s pre-fair competitions. Contest Kitchen competitions allow non-professionals to show off their talent in the kitchen. The majority of competitions allow day-of registration. A handful of events known as “cook-offs” (baking /cooking done on-site in the Contest Kitchen) require entrants to pre-register and participate in a pre-Fair lottery.2016 Creative Arts Handbook
Chili and Barbecue Cook-off
The chili and barbecue cook-off is perfect for amateur kings of the smoker or for those looking to gain CASI points to compete in Terlingua. First place winners in each category receive a $100 prize and a Big Tex trophy.
