Are you blue ribbon worthy? The deadline to enter your creations into the 2016 State Fair of Texas is quickly approaching – don’t miss out on your chance to win!
To participate in any of the pre-Fair Creative Arts contests, all entry forms and fees should be sent via mail and must be postmarked by Friday, July 22. Once the registration materials have been submitted, the next step for participants is submitting their actual entries. Contestants have the option to submit their items via mail or deliver them in person. Any entries sent via mail must be postmarked by July 22. Contestants who plan to hand deliver their items can drop them off at the Creative Arts Building on August 12, 13 or 14 between 9 am and 5 pm. Only one entry per person may be submitted within each category. You can find the contest entry form, along with details on every contest, online in the 2016 Creative Arts Handbook. Whether it’s your secret family recipe or a hand-crafted work of art, take a chance and enter your creation into the mix – it could end up on display in the famed Creative Arts Building during the 2016 State Fair of Texas.
A quintessential element of the State Fair of Texas, the Creative Arts Building serves as a showcase for all the winning entries in each of the various competitions, as well as the location for daily contests throughout the run of the Fair. With more than 1,100 pre-Fair categories in 12 different departments, the Creative Arts competitions offer endless opportunities for amateurs of all ages, as well as professionals. Contest departments include: art, ceramics, designer-craftsman, dolls, foods (canning), hobby collections, holiday corner, needlepoint and cross stitch, needlework and sewing, afghans, quilts, rugs and bedspreads, photography and scale modeling.
On Sunday, September 25 the State Fair will hold its annual Chili Cook-Off, BBQ Cook-Off and Three-Pot Dutch Oven Cook-Off. The Grand Champion winners of each contest will receive a special Big Tex® trophy. In addition, the Three-Pot Dutch Oven Cook-Off winner will be eligible to compete in the 2017 International Dutch Oven Society’s World Championship Cook-Off in Sandy, Utah. Pre-registration for these events is requested, however entries will be accepted the day of the contests.
