Howdy, folks!
I hope you all had a happy Independence Day. For those of you who joined us on the State Fair of Texas Midway for the Fourth of July, I hope you enjoyed the festivities and live fireworks to top off the holiday.
We had a record crowd on the Midway this year in celebration of our great nation. More than 17,000 people joined us, compared to approximately 11,500 in 2014. Guests were all smiles, creating memories by riding rides, playing games, listening to live music or savoring a funnel cake while waiting for a spectacular live fireworks display from the Midway.
I have mentioned previously that a portion of the proceeds from the State Fair of Texas are given as scholarships to deserving youth. This spring, we had the honor of awarding 150 new college scholarships to graduating seniors in the Dallas area and throughout the Lone Star State. All proceeds from our Fourth of July event will go to the State Fair of Texas Youth Scholarship Program. While we don’t have the final number yet, we expect a significant increase over last year that will help support youth throughout the state of Texas fulfill their college dreams.
Opening the Midway on July Fourth gave us all a taste of what is coming this fall when the gates swing open for the 2015 State Fair of Texas, and the team here is hard at work, striving to make this year’s Fair bigger and better than ever. I would like to personally thank you for supporting the Fair and helping us provide scholarships to deserving youth throughout our great state.
See you at the Fair!
Mitchell Glieber, President
