The State Fair of Texas® has selected Deep in the Heart of Texans as its theme for this year’s exposition, Sept. 26-Oct. 19.
“For generations, the State Fair of Texas has been the destination to bring all Texans together,” says Mitchell Glieber, executive vice president of the Fair. “We’re honored to have played a role in forging so many family memories and traditions. Our goal each year is to make visitors even more proud to be Texans after experiencing the Fair. And, if they’re not from Texas, we want them to be honorary Texans during their visit.”
Hot new features of the 2014 Fair include a Texas Sports Hall of Fame exhibition in the Hall of State. Visiting from Waco exclusively for the Fair’s run, the attraction will showcase memorabilia from Texas sports legends recognized since the hall of fame’s start in 1951.
As part of the State Fair’s mission to give back to the community, it has partnered with Canstruction® to showcase giant arrangements built with cans of food. At the end of the Fair, the cans displayed will be donated for hunger relief efforts. “We are so excited to be partnering with the State Fair for the 2014 Canstruction Dallas exhibit. The exhibit provides a fun viewing opportunity for the attendees of the Fair as well as providing thousands of pounds of much-needed food to the North Texas Food Bank at a critical time of the year,” according to Jan Krause-Leckie, 2014 Canstruction Dallas co-chair. As providers of free admission to more than 1.7 million students and teachers in North Texas, the State Fair looks forward to increased focus on helping those less fortunate.
Gridiron grudge matches will resume in historic Cotton Bowl® stadium with Grambling State Tigers taking on Prairie View A&M Panthers September 27. The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will kick off October 11 in the annual Red River Rivalry.
The Chevy Main Stage will feature top entertainers every weekend plus live bands throughout the week. All concerts are free for fairgoers; a complete lineup will be announced in the coming months.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Fair’s Big Tex Choice Awards contest. Winners selected in the Labor Day event will once again keep happy Fair fans fed when the gates open.
The State Fair of Texas celebrates all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. Following the return of Big Tex last year, Fair officials are once again expecting this event’s docket of food and fun to be one for the record books.
