We are the Fried Food Capital of Texas®. But food at the Fair goes beyond turkey legs and corny dogs. Texans like to be inventive with their food. Whether it is the winner of the Big Tex Choice Awards or a recipe from the competition kitchen, there are lots of culinary surprises at the State Fair of Texas.

Big Tex Choice Awards
Each year, State Fair concessionaires fry up tasty and unique foods for a chance to become a finalist in the Big Tex Choice Awards. In 2014, the Big Tex Choice Awards winners were chosen from eight finalists. Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil, created by Clint Probst, won Best Tasting. The Most Creative food item was awarded to Justin and Rudy Martinez for their creation, the Original State Fair Brew – funnel Cake Ale.
Each day of the State Fair brings new and exciting cooking competitions to the Contest Kitchen. And you can watch all the action! Some of the most popular events include cake and cookie baking, and a Red River Rivalry-themed biscuit challenge. Did you know some of the state’s most notable chefs can be found at the State Fair? Each day, area chefs prepare their favorite signature dishes, share kitchen tips and answer questions from the audience. Be sure to stick around for the free samples at the end of the show. There are four to five demonstrations daily. Check the schedule for times and to see who is cooking in the Celebrity Kitchen.
