Farm Day at the Fair is a TEKS-based program providing in-class lesson plans culminated by a learning excursion to the livestock barns at Fair Park. This program is intended to raise awareness and importance of agriculture in urban youth. Open to 3rd and 4th graders from the DFW area.
Farm Day at the Fair will be held October 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, and 20 2016. Deadline to apply is Monday, September 26.
This year’s Farm Day at the Fair Fun
Milking Parlor: Students have the opportunity to see a dairy cow be milked and learn about the benefits of including dairy in a well-balanced meal.
Big Tex’s Farmyard: Students will take a guided stroll through Big Tex’s Farmyard, featuring live animals and the role they play in feeding and clothing the world.
Crop Up: Farmers aren’t the only ones who grow plants for food and clothes, in this area students will have the opportunity to plant a seed, water growing plants and learn about the “fruits” of their labor.
Forestry: Students watch in awe as a professional tree climb ascends a tree and teaches about all of the benefits they receive on a daily basis from the trees around them as well as deep in the forest.
