Home to the best artwork in all of Texas, an oversized butter sculpture, the Creative Arts Competition Kitchen, Celebrity Chef Kitchen, and the Oak Farms Theatre, the Creative Arts building during the Fair is a fan favorite. Though you might enjoy simply strolling through to admire all the artwork or hearing the excitement of ribbons being awarded in the Competition Kitchen, we’re encouraging you to join in on the fun this year.
In celebration of the State Fair of Texas’ 2019 theme,“ Celebrating Texas Creativity,” the Creative Arts Handbook and online registration is available earlier than ever before. Found on the website, the Handbook is home to everything you need to know about each contest in Creative Arts. Yes, that’s a lot of information, but we’re breaking it down step-by-step and making it easier than ever for you to enter!
1. Download the Creative Arts Handbook
To make sure you’re entering the correct contest, we suggest downloading the online Handbook and keeping it handy (no pun intended) during your online registration process.
2. Create an Account
To begin the online registration process head over to BigTex.com/CreativeArtsRegister where you’ll find a few important reminders. From there click on the Register Now button at the bottom of the page – you’ll be redirected to Blue Ribbon Fair-online. If you haven’t already, create your exhibitor account. This will allow you to login, choose your contest, check on any contests you’ve already entered, or submit an online payment for each entry.
*Note – If your child or grandchild is competing in a contest, you must create a seperate account for them. Each contestant must have their own account. Just be sure to select their division as Junior/Children and provide their date of birth.
3. Find your Contest
Once you’ve created your account, select “Entries” at the top of the page. Listed you’ll see numerous contests offered, or what we like to call ‘Departments.’ The Big Tex BBQ & Chili Challenge is first on the list numbered as 010. This contest is September 21st, the Saturday before the Fair. Next, the departments numbered 011 through 043 are Cooking Contests. These contests happen during the Fair. Following those numbers, the department letters A through L list out the Arts & Crafts contests, which happen pre-Fair.
4. Choose your Class
Once you’ve selected a department contest, a row of class information will show up directly below. Select the + symbol and locate the correct class. If you need help determining which class to enter, refer to the Handbook.
After locating the correct class, be sure to click on the word ‘Add,’ and continue to do this for each contest you want to enter. Once completed, proceed to ‘Review Entries’ found back at the top of the page to confirm all the contests you have selected.
*Example – I am wanting to enter the State Fair-Theme class in the Photography Contest, so I would scroll to Department K (Photography), select it, and find class K133 – State Fair-Theme.
Next, you’ll need to click ‘Items/Checkout’ at the top of the page. The checkout page will show you an overview of each entry fee. Once you are ready, proceed to checkout.
5. Let the Fun Begin
You did it! You have officially registered for a Creative Arts Contest. All that’s left now is to perfect that tasty ribbon-winning recipe or get creative with those Arts & Crafts Contests! Stay up-to-date on deadlines and reminders by signing up for our Creative Texans Newsletter.
