Five NEW Cooking Competitions at the Fair and a bonus!

Posted in: Creative Arts, Fair Time Information.

Do you love to cook? How many times do your friends or family tell you how great of a cook you are? If it’s just about every time y’all get together, then you should enter in a State Fair of Texas cooking contests. We’ll make it easy for you, here are five new contests PLUS a bonus suggestion of which competitions to enter in the Creative Arts Competition Kitchen. Be sure to see the complete Creative Arts cooking competition calendar to find the perfect contest for you!

Entering a food item does not have to be scary. It’s actually pretty simple and FUN:

1. Find a contest you are interested in on the contest calendar
2. Download the entry form for that contest from the Creative Arts Handbook
3. Bring your item and entry form to the Creative Arts building between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on contest day.
4. Wait to be awarded your blue ribbon!

What contests should you enter?

Jammin’ with Jelly (10/1) — Whether you kick it with the hor d’oeuvres or stick to the desserts, this jam-sesh requires no rhythm. All you need is ¼ cup of a jam or jelly! Jammin’ with Jelly has five categories: hor d’oeuvres, main dishes, sauces, desserts, or beverages.

Sensational Citrus (10/1) — Don’t get it mixed up, this contest must have either ¼ cup of citrus juice or ¼ cup of the fruit itself. You can’t go wrong with whichever ingredient, just make sure your recipe is blue ribbon sensational.

Ports of Call (10/3) — While this contest isn’t entirely new, the countries to choose from are! Make a State Fair worthy signature dish inspired by the cuisine from one of the following countries: Brazil, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Japan, or Sweden.

Blue Plate Special (10/9) — Blue Plate Special gives you a little bit more wiggle room on what dish to make. From a vegetable casserole to a fried pie, this competition is sure to spark interest in anyone. Not to mention, there are special prizes for winning cornbread entries using a cast iron skillet!

The Cooked Perfect Meatball (10/19) — Don’t miss the State Fair’s new Cooked Perfect® Meatball Challenge. Make your tastiest meatball appetizers, main dishes, and sandwiches. Deliver them to the fair for judging. Cash prizes and kudos await the best of the best! Find more information by clicking here.

*BONUS suggestion: Tex-Mex (10/19) — You can probably guess why we chose this cooking contest as the bonus suggestion! Because what’s more Texan than Tex-Mex? Put your salsa, appetizer, salad, soup, chili, entrée, or dessert to the test and see if it’s State Fair of Texas ribbon worthy.
