Buildings open at 10 a.m.

1. Downtown Parade

   We’re heading to downtown – the heart of Dallas – for our annual opening day tradition, the downtown parade! Beginning at noon on September 25 from Houston and Main streets, the animated cast and vibrant displays of the State Fair’s Starlight Parade will proudly kickoff the 2015 State Fair of Texas through its march down the streets of downtown.

2. Visit Big Tex

   As the official State Fair icon, and a Texas icon himself, Big Tex welcomes the annual crowd of fairgoers with a friendly wave and a hearty, “Howdy, Folks!” Making his first Fair debut in 1952, Big Tex has since become a household name. Year after year, millions of visitors come from far and wide to experience the State Fair, holding a special place in their hearts for its beloved icon, Big Tex. Representing a place where families create lifelong memories, Big Tex embodies every aspect of Texas culture, from the spirit of tradition to the sense of community.

3. Opening Ceremony

   Join the State Fair of Texas team as we official open the 2015 State Fair of Texas. The Opening Ceremony, featuring Texas dignitaries and local celebrities, is a time-honored tradition that takes place on the steps of the historic Hall of State.

4. All-New Mattress Firm Illumination Sensation
   Presented by Mattress Firm.

   Experience the nightly celebration – completely remastered! Set along a scenic reflecting pool, the Mattress Firm Illumination Sensation wows the crowd with dancing waters and liquid fire. A unique and breathtaking event, the show combines fireworks and high-energy pop music with engaging performances from dancers and acrobats. This sensational show begins at 8 p.m. Show up early to stake out the best vantage points along the Esplanade!

5. Chevrolet Main Stage Concert: Craig Wayne Boyd
   Presented by Chevrolet.

   With live music as one of its cornerstones, the State Fair of Texas presents 24 days of free concerts on the Chevrolet Main Stage, featuring a variety of musical acts across all genres. The stage showcases national and regional talent of all types, with all performances included in the price of admission. Tonight, Texas-born and raised country singer and multi-instrumentalist Craig Wayne Boyd, who came to the public’s attention when he was a contestant, and the eventual winner, on the seventh season of the television show The Voice in 2014, takes the Main Stage at 8:30 p.m.
