4 Fair Contests That Are Too Sweet to Miss

You know you have the most decadent chocolate dessert, why not show it off? See how you can put your recipe to the test and earn the title for best Chocolate Dessert, among others, in the Creative Arts Competition Kitchen.

What contests should you enter?

  • The Cookie Contest (10/15) Are your friends constantly begging you for your cookie recipes?  Whether you make the world’s best chocolate chip cookies or you’re a professional when it comes to decorating, you can enter one of the seven “classes” of cookies to best showcase your talents.

  • The Chocolate! Contest (10/17).  If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s chocolate! From chocolate layer cake to chocolate tarts and even brownies, there are seven different categories for you to enter your favorite chocolate recipe in hopes of taking home a blue ribbon.

  • Fruit Desserts Contest (10/18). You don’t have to wait until the holidays to make your famous fruit cake! Come make it at the State Fair and enter it in the fruit desserts contest. There are six different categories to show off your best pies, strudels and pudding – just to name a few!

  • Candy Domino Sugar Contest (10/21). Fudgey, nutty, sticky, or chewy, bring your favorite candy recipes to the Fair for this contest! From mints to taffy, there are 14 sweet categories in the candy competition.

Entering a food items is super simple:

  1. Find a contest you are interested on the contest calendar

  2. Download the entry form for that contest from the Creative Arts Handbook

  3. Bring your item and entry form to the Fair between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

  4. Wait to be awarded your Blue Ribbon
