Domino Man stands 'em up and knocks 'em down

Domino Man will crawl on his knees for hours, painstakingly balancing thousands of dominoes on their edges in perfect curves and rows on the floor.

And each night, he’ll knock them down again.

But such is a day in the life of “Domino Dan” and Mick Harrington – domino topplers displaying domino dexterity to State Fair visitors for the first time this year.  The audience will be amazed as one of the steady-handed entertainers create spectacular and artistic domino displays during the day and, then, topple them during a dramatic show every evening. Each day will bring an exciting, new display – and destruction.

Professional domino toppler Domino Dan, from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., will be the first to arrive and will entertain fairgoers beginning Friday, Sept. 26 - finishing out his stint on Thursday, October 9.  He was only a tot when he began stacking dominoes at his mother’s kitchen table, and now he has made a career from the childhood game. He’s created – and destroyed – displays of more than 50,000 dominoes and has performed internationally.

Visitors will welcome Mick Harrington for the final two weeks.   Also hailing from the great state of New York, Harrington will be on hand to design, build and demolish his creations each day.

The Domino Man may be seen daily inside the African American Museum, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.   Toppling occurs at 6:15 p.m.  The show is free with State Fair admission and runs through Oct. 19.
