'ILLUMINATION SENSATION!': Spectacular light show captures the Ignite Your Senses! theme with high tech visual effects, fire and pyrotechnics. Nightly, 8 p.m., along the 700-ft. Esplanade reflecting pool. Sponsored by Mattress Firm. FREE.

DOMINO MAN: Watch the Domino Man make a new visual masterpiece, every day, using sets of the dotted gaming pieces. See 'em topple each evening at 6:15 p.m., complete with special effects. Daily, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. in the African American Museum. FREE.

TEXAS SKYWAY:High-flying fun, plus a panoramic view, awaitIt's all aboard and high-flyin' fun for passengers gliding above Fair Park in 35 Art Deco-inspired gondolas. Traveling more than 1,800 ft. from one station to the other, it accommodates passengers with strollers or wheelchairs. Sponsored by Mrs Baird's.

HIGH-FLYING DAREDEVILS: Using sway poles, the world-famous Nerveless Nocks will thrill fairgoers in Gateway Plaza. Multiple performances daily. Sponsored by McDonald's. FREE.

COTTON BOWL ACTIONWith a seating capacity of 91,000, the Cotton Bowl is home to three games during the 2008 Fair.  On October 4, at 6 p.m., the Grambling State Tigers will take on the Panthers of Prairie View A&M in the State Fair Classic.  At 11 a.m. on October 11, the Red River Rivalry kicks off a game between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns. On the eve of the Fair's closing, the Texas A&M Commerce Lions play the East Central University Tigers of Ada, Oklahoma.  Take the easy route to the game - ride DART.

STARLIGHT PARADE: The after-dark favorite features illuminated floats, giant puppets and characters in fantastic costumes. This bright extravaganza glides through the park nightly at 7:15 p.m. Sponsored by Kitchen Craft. FREE.

BUD LIGHT TRUE MUSIC STAGE: This outdoor stage is home to the Candy Coburn Show.   The stage offers entertainment and a wide variety of food stands to choose from in Cotton Bowl Plaza. Sponsored by Bud Light. FREE.

L'OREAL: Here's an idea: Stop by this sleek exhibit where L'Oréal Paris, one of the world's top beauty care brands, offers a chance to experiment with looks, color and fresh ideas. Find it in East Park Plaza. FREE.

SAND SCULPTURE: Big Tex meets King Tut in the Coliseum Market Place when Team Sandtastic transforms 100 tons of sand into replicas of Big Tex and Tutankhamun. Young fairgoers have an opportunity to enjoy a special play area located adjacent to the sculpture. Daily in the Coliseum. FREE.

EATING AS A SPORT: See the Sixth Annual World Corny Dog Eating Championship on Sept. 28. Pre-selected contestants will chow down for the winner's trophy on the Chevrolet Main Stage. FREE.

THE SMARTHOUSE: Not a moment too soon! Enter and discover the latest time and energy-saving technologies in this exhibit featuring the latest in "green" home applications designed by women engineers. Visitors will also have an opportunity to interact with the latest state-of-the-art features. Daily, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., in The Women's Museum. FREE.

BMX BIKE SHOW: This is not your grandpa's bike. See the mind-boggling all-star 720 Action Sports team perform gravity-defying feats in the Thrillway. Co-sponsored by U.S. Air Force and All-Sport. FREE.

MIDWAY LIGHTS: A Vegas-inspired, four-minute light show. Eyes turn skyward, as synchronized lights and pulsating music create a spectacle stretching along 2,200 ft. of prime real estate at the State Fair of Texas. Shows each night at 7, 8, 9 & 10 p.m. (plus 11 p.m. on Saturday). FREE.

IKEA CELEBRITY KITCHEN: An incredible see-it-to-believe-it kitchen by IKEA provides the backdrop for this popular event in Creative Arts. Local and regional celebrity chefs demonstrate recipes of all kinds in daily shows. FREE.

 

STATE FAIR AUTO SHOW: Filling two exhibit halls and outdoor displays, the biggest new car and truck show in the Southwest features 2009 models, plus concept vehicles and weekend rallies for collectors. Admission is FREE for all State Fair visitors.

LUXURY SHOWROOM: Premium nameplates abound in this special area of the Centennial Building featuring automakers' luxury and premium lines. Consider options and compare sticker prices on the newest from Lexus, Infiniti, Lincoln-Mercury, Chrysler, Cadillac and Saab. Open daily at 10 a.m. FREE.

2009 TRUCK ZONE: Texans love trucks, and here's where to find the newest styles and accessories. Entertainment and the latest offerings from Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, GMC, as well as a few surprises. FREE.

TOTAL DIGITAL HOME:  Time Warner Cable’s interactive exhibit showcases the next evolution of TV, internet and phone.  Fairgoers can watch live demonstrations of the latest products and services and learn how to transform their houses into Total Digital Homes powered by Time Warner Cable’s advanced fiber network.  Open Friday thru Monday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. in Gateway Plaza.  Exhibit closes at 9 p.m. on T-W-Th.  FREE.

CLASSIC CORRAL: Vintage beauties including T-birds, Mustangs, Harleys, Model A's, Jags, Camaros, Z's and Chris-Crafts in a revolving showcase. Meet owners & club members on weekends, weather permitting. Across Grand Ave. from the African American Museum, on the lawn behind the Natural History Museum. Sponsored by Allstate. FREE.

CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER BARNYARD: Lots of animals to see, plus the popular nursery where sows, ewes, nanny goats and their young are spotlighted throughout the run of the Fair. Sponsored by Children's Medical Center. FREE.

SCHEPPS BACKYARD CIRCUS: Imaginations soar when younger kids dress up in costumes and take part in a show that features lion tamers, tight-rope walkers, ballerinas and a host of circus favorites. Sponsored by Schepps Dairy. FREE.

BIRDS OF THE WORLD: Steve Martin's free-flight bird show celebrates its 20th consecutive year at the Fair with feathered performers from around the globe, plus a photo opportunity with the world's largest species of owl. Free shows, four times daily in the Band Shell. Sponsored by Kroger Food Stores. FREE.

STATE FAIR OF TEXAS WINE GARDEN: Visitors can explore the world of wine in an attractive courtyard setting. Experts will conduct Wine 101 classes, and Texas vintners will answer questions during scheduled tastings throughout the run of the Fair. Special jazz performances are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays at the Go Texan stage in the garden.  Located on Nimitz Drive across the street from the Creative Arts Building. Sponsored by Kroger Food Stores.

PIG RACES: And, here they come, snout-to-snout, down the stretch, back bypopular demand! Three times a day, visitors can "wager" on these wiggly piglets as they send the sawdust flying in the TXU Energy Arena. FREE.

PEE WEE STAMPEDE: Got a little buckaroo looking for some ropin' and ridin' action? Children are invited to grab some chaps and a hat, jump on a stick horse or bull, and go for it The audience provides encouragement; the kids provide the show. Daily, in the Ranch Arena. Sponsored by OPERATION® the Silly Skill Game. FREE.

HOT DIGGITY DOG SHOWS: A tip of the hat to the pups: Lou Mack's 'Top Flight K-9s' star in action-packed daytime shows; midafternoon and evening performances belong to Pam Martin's "Dancing with the Dogs." See both troupes in the TXU Energy Arena. FREE.


UNITED STATES MARINES: Straight from Washington, D.C., the famed U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps thrills the crowds in afternoon concerts at Marine Corps Square and in the evening parade from Sept. 26 - October 12 (except Wednesdays). FREE.

TEXAS LOTTERY SHOW: Zany games with prizes attract lottery fans to this hot spot of Fairtime fun. Four shows daily at 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m. Sponsored by Texas Lottery Commission.

BIG TEX GARDEN RAILWAY: Designer and landscape artist Paul Busse creates an imaginative train display that appeals to young and old alike. Located in Big Tex Circle. Sponsored by Oncor. FREE.

STATE FAIR FALL GARDEN EXHIBITION: The dirt will fly as landscaping companies vie for Best of Show bragging rights in this annual gardening competition. Median strips, traffic isles and fountain bases throughout Fair Park will feature the landscapers' creations. Design and planting information is available each step of the way. FREE.

MIDWAY: A neon playground with more than 70 exciting rides and shows, including the Texas SkyWay® gondola ride, the 212-ft. Texas Star® Ferriswheel and a 1914 Dentzel carousel. Best place for an adrenaline rush? The Thrillway and its X-treme experiences. Rides, games, shows, souvenirs and fantastic food-on-a-stick make it one of the fair's most popular destinations.

LIVESTOCK BREED DISPLAYS: Cows, pigs, sheep and goats are showcased in breed displays on modern livestock production. Free exhibits located in Cattle Barn 1 and the Swine Building.

LITTLE HANDS ON THE FARM: Little ones 'experience' life on a farm with chores including egg-gathering, planting and harvesting vegetables, and feeding and milking a cow. The cycle is complete when kids receive play money for grocery shopping at the store. Sponsored by Bank of America, Dreyer's Ice Cream, AT&T and Wal-Mart/Sam's Club. FREE.

"WORLD ON A STRING" PUPPET SHOW: Master puppeteer John Hardman and his cast of marionettes perform throughout the day in Creative Arts' Showplace Theater. FREE.

SPIRIT OF THE HORSE: Visitors line the fences when this fascinating show begins. Equine expert Robert Liner demonstrates his methods of training and communicating with horses. Daily, in the Ranch Arena. Sponsored by OPERATION® the Silly Skill Game. FREE.

LIVESTOCK: Diligence and countless hours pay off for 4H and FFA exhibitors at the Youth Livestock Auction of Champions on Oct. 3. A roster of shows and sales offers an array of beef and dairy cattle, sheep, swine, goats, poultry and exotic breeds.

MILKING PARLOR: Cows from nearby farms are brought to the Fair for an entertaining and educational exhibit of modern milking procedures. Daily demonstrations in Cattle Pavilion 1. Sponsored by Southwest Dairy Museum. FREE.

SHOPPING? More than 300 exhibitors offer the practical, the unusual - and everything in between. Shopping opportunities abound at the Coliseum Market Place, Grand Place, the Crafts Pavilion, the Centennial Building (inside and out), Gateway Pavilion, the Embarcadero, East Park/Gateway and the Pennsylvania Gate.

GUIDED LIVESTOCK TOURS: City dwellers can catch a fascinating look at the State Fair livestock barns and pavilions in this 50-minute guided tour by Moo U. Groups embark every 15 minutes on the corner near "Little Hands on the Farm." Daily, except Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. FREE.

CREATIVE ARTS: Synonymous with fairs everywhere, this is the place to find ribbon-winners in more than 1,100 categories, including canning, quilts, photography and crafts. Contest kitchens feature daily competitions and cooking demonstrations. FREE.

ROCK BAND STAGE : The Killdares bring their Celtic rock back to the State Fair of Texas.  Shows at 3, 4, 5 & 6 p.m.  FREE.

ENTERTAINMENT STAGES AND STREET PERFORMERS: Talented and unique entertainers perform on street corners or small stages scattered throughout the park.

TEXAS GARDEN RAILWAY: Designer and landscape artist Paul Busse creates an imaginative train display that appeals to young and old alike. FREE.

MUNDO LATINO : A celebration of Cultures features El Mariachi: Music and Tradition. The exhibit features the history, music, instruments and costumes of the traditional Mariachi. Professional Mariachi groups will perform every Saturday and Sunday.  A shopping experience, the Mercado is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 7 p.m.  FREE.

MUSEUM OF NATURE & SCIENCE Museum offerings include Your Incredible Body exhibit, Children's Museum and the Texas Dinosaurs Fossil Dig.  A special exhibit, Mexican American Barrios:  Impact on Dallas is presented in cooperaton with The Dallas Mexican American Historical League. See the IMAX films Wired to Win and Pulse or visit the Live Sky Show at the Planetarium.  Paid admission required.

CONTINENTAL DAR HOUSE:  American history memorabilia is showcased in this small museum.  Featured exhibits include dolls and quilts, plus artistic demonstrations.  The New Andrew Sisters perform classics from the famed 1940s trio - along with patriotic favorities - on Saturdays at 11 a.m.

FAIR PARK MUSEUMS: There's lots to see in Fair Park, home to the African American Museum, Continental DAR House, Dallas Aquarium, Museum of the American Railroad, Museum of Nature & Science, Hall of State, Texas Discovery Gardens and The Women's Museum.
