Local high school seniors saluted at scholarship luncheon

The State Fair of Texas board of directors honored its 2010 scholarship recipients at an April 24 luncheon at the Music Hall in Fair Park. Keynote speaker was Dr. Sheron Patterson, Senior Pastor of Highland Hills United Methodist Church in Dallas. FOX4 anchor Clarice Tinsley presented the awards. The State Fair Scholarship program was established in 1992 for students attending five Fair Park-area high schools, Irma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School, James Madison High School, Lincoln High School, North Dallas High School, and Woodrow Wilson High School.
Recipients are awarded a $5,000 grant, renewable in $1,250 annual increments if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA toward their degree at a Texas university and/or Texas community college.
Scholarships are also awarded to young people statewide who participate in State Fair livestock shows.
Since its inception, the State Fair of Texas has conferred more than $2.8 million in new and renewed scholarships. Online applications for 2011 seniors will be posted in December.
