SUMMARY

Assist in providing construction setup and support for rides, shows, and SFT sponsored entertainment; responsible for mixing, matching and applying paint to various surfaces, completing touchups and coordinating large painting projects.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Apply paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
• Mix, match and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel and other finishes.
• Scrape, sandpaper, prime or seal surfaces prior to painting.
• Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
• Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
• Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs.
• Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
• Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
• Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps and electric switch covers prior to painting and replace as needed.
• Select and buy paint from vendors.
• Drywall experience required.
• Carpentry experience will be a plus.

Marginal Functions:

• Perform additional related duties as required.
• May assist in preparation of the overall annual Operating Budget for the Maintenance and Engineering Department.
• Attend meetings, seminars and training courses as required.
• May perform duties as a project inspector on new SFT facilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices, methods and techniques of building construction and SFT general practices.
• SFT building standards, basic understanding of building requirements, and other applicable systems.
• Building construction techniques and processes.
• Industry standards and specifications for public service construction projects.
• Accepted safety standards and methods of construction.
• Basic mathematics as applied to painting work, bids, etc.
• Pertinent Federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations affecting health and safety.

Ability to:

• Observe and take remedial action on non-compliance with city, SFT, or industry construction standards and specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, plans and specifications.
• Interpret and communicate city codes and ordinances to construction staff in order to properly and safely operate SFT apparatus.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain effective working relationships.
• Deal tactfully and cost-effectively with contractors.

EXPERIENCE and TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Preferred Education and/or Experience:                 

• High school diploma or GED equivalent, one to three year’s painting experience or specialized training in painting and construction.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Texas driver’s license.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED

• Reports to Chief Carpenter

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:

• Office and field environment; exposure to all weather; exposure to conditions associated with construction and development projects.

Physical Conditions:

• Conducting field inspections; exposure to construction sites, electrical currents, and manual labor; required to bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, climb, crawl, and kneel, stand; require use of both legs, visual acuity to inspect; ability to operate a vehicle, inspect in confined spaces, and lift moderately heavy objects.
